What is the difference between a single and double-cylinder deadbolt lock?

door with deadbolt lockIt’s pretty easy to tell a single-cylinder deadbolt lock apart from a double cylinder lock.

A single-cylinder deadbolt has a slot for a key only on the side that will be mounted on the outside of the door, while the other side has some type of turning mechanism, usually a thumb-turn. It is set to face inside, to be used to lock or unlock the door without having to use keys.

Advantages of single-cylinder deadbolt lock are low cost, in case of an emergency it’s easy to get outside, and general ease of use.

The main difference between a double-cylinder deadbolt is that it has a slot for a key on the front (outside) and back (inside). which means that a key is needed to turn the lock on both sides.
This offers more security but also has the drawback that in an emergency the key Is needed to unlock the door.

Both types of locks are available for residential and commercial use.

CT Commercial Door Replacement – Before & After

We were hard at work at a warehouse in Stafford Springs, CT! A new door was needed for the employee entrance.

The old door had very bad rust damage on the bottom and was not in compliance with local building codes. We replaced the door with a commercial grade steel door and, to meet the required fire code, we also installed a panic bar. A panic bar is a metal bar that is spring loaded and mounted on the inside of a commercial door. When the bar is pressed the door unlatches and gives access to the outside in case of an emergency.

J & B Locksmith Service provides professional panic/exit bar installation services and door replacement for commercial properties throughout the greater Hartford area.

Ditec Automatic Door Opener installation

Recently we were asked to install an automatic door opener system at a commercial location. We decided to use the Ditce HA8-LP because of low-energy operation, durabiity, and small header for limited clearance.

The Ditec HA8-LP is great for high traffic locations such as hospitals, retail stores, schools & universities, airports, convention centers, casinos, industrial buildings and offices. We also installed a push plate for easy activation of the swing door for those with disabilities.
