Keyless, wireless locks for cabinets and drawers…

…make life easier at medical facilities.

Commercial Lockmsith - keyless, wireless locks for cabinets and drawers

Busy doctors and their staff no longer have to worry about who has the keys when they need to get medications in a hurry from the medicine cabinet. The same applies to the office staff when they need to access patient files that are locked in a drawer and nobody knows where the keys are.

How does it work?

Keyless wireless locking systems for cabinets and drawers consist of a transmitter pad, receiver latch, and strike plate. The receiver latch mounts inside the cabinet and the strike plate locks the door or drawer.

A code is entered into the transmitter which then in turn sends the signal to lock or unlock the cabinet or drawer.

Lost, misplaced or stolen keys are no longer an issue with these systems. The transmitter code can be changed whenever the situation requires it, thereby improving security and making the work environment a little bit less stressful on a daily basis for the staff and owner.

Medical facilities are not the only businesses that can benefit from these systems. The applications range from gym lockers to residential cabinets (baby proofing kitchens and bath rooms for example), to offices that need to secure sensitive information.

Improved CT school security with electronic wireless locks

CT school safetyWith the school shooting tragedy in Newton still on everybody’s mind and while lawmakers are debating gun control, school administrators are looking for ways to increase protection for students and teachers during school hours. Parents and residents are demanding improved security and better ways to lock down schools, many towns and cities across the nation are scrambling to find a solution.

Electronic locks are one way to add security to a school building. Lock manufacturers have developed electronic locks that can achieve fast results in a lockdown situation. Wireless electronic locks can be added to an existing building that provide the same enhanced security as hard-wired locks that are used in new construction. Both types of locks can be managed through the computer network and, in emergency situations, provide fast lockdown. One lock manufacturer states that “10 seconds is the longest it will take to initiate lockdown” when using one of their wireless lock models.

Controlling access using a wireless lock also provides other benefits to schools, such as the ability to control or restrict entry to individuals during certain hours and provide an audit trail of who entered the building.

The Enfield Board of Education voted to place an armed guard in every Enfield school starting in September. Do you feel that this will deter shool shootings?

Door locks go hi-tech

Lock manufacturers have come up with a new way for homeowners to control and protect their home by combining home automation technology with a way to manage it when they’re away from home during working hours, or even on vacation.

With this combination locks, lights, thermostats, and cameras can be controlled from anywhere as long as there is an internet connection available.

How can this technology be utlizied?

The homeowner can:

  • Unlock a door for a guest when away (at the office, out shopping, etc.).
  • Assign housekeepers or babysitters scheduled lock codes for one-time or limited access.
  • The system can send text or email alerts when something happens at home that needs the owner’s attention.
  • Use wireless cameras to view what’s going on when away.
  • Trigger the lights to turn on when a door is unlocked.
  • Easily set schedules to activate lights and manage temperatures for maximum energy efficiency.

Can your phone unlock the office door?

smartphone keyComing soon to a smartphone near you.

Besides making phone calls and sending text messages, smartphones can also handle a lot of other tasks. Anything from taking a picture to online banking, or looking up directions when you’re out and about. Every day developers extend the functionality of smartphones with new mobile apps. A new application that is currently being tested in an enterprise setting will enable a smartphone to open doors.

HID Global®, located in California and an ASSA ABLOY Group brand, recently completed two pilot programs that demonstrate how Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled devices can allow employees to conveniently open doors with a mobile phone without compromising security.

Participants in the pilot felt that the application for unlocking doors was inutuitive and easy to use. They also felt that the smartphone was more convenient to use than an access card, primarily because they never forget their phones like they do their badges.

The pilot programs provided valuable information on how a smartphone can be used in an enterprise setting to function as a keyless entry system.
