Multi-technology readers improve safety

card readerIn today’s more security-conscious world often it is not good enough to have just base access control on a single card or PIN. PINs can be used by a number of people as can cards. However, the likelihood of a bad guy knowing the PIN of the person whose card they have stolen (or found), is less likely. So how can a business or school improve security to their facility? The answer: multi-technology readers.

When key card technology was introduced it was simple. No more lost keys, just swipe the card at the door and you’re in. But anyone getting access to the card was also in, not so good. Newer card readers add a layer of security by combining a PIN with the card in the authentication process. To verify a person’s identity at the point of entry they will need a PIN in addition to the card. This combination provides more assurance that the person meant to enter is actually gaining access and not an unauthorized person. With a multi-credential reader it’s no longer possible for someone who found a key card to gain entry by just swiping the card. With dual authentication they will also need to know the PIN in order to get in.

This type of access control is perfect for office buildings, retail stores, warehouses and schools. If you need help adding another level of security to your Connecticut organization email Jim Arsenault or call him at 860-678-9797.
