Busy doctors and their staff no longer have to worry about who has the keys when they need to get medications in a hurry from the medicine cabinet. The same applies to the office staff when they need to access patient files that are locked in a drawer and nobody knows where the keys are.

How does it work?

Keyless wireless locking systems for cabinets and drawers consist of a transmitter pad, receiver latch, and strike plate. The receiver latch mounts inside the cabinet and the strike plate locks the door or drawer.

A code is entered into the transmitter which then in turn sends the signal to lock or unlock the cabinet or drawer.

Lost, misplaced or stolen keys are no longer an issue with these systems. The transmitter code can be changed whenever the situation requires it, thereby improving security and making the work environment a little bit less stressful on a daily basis for the staff and owner.

Medical facilities are not the only businesses that can benefit from these systems. The applications range from gym lockers to residential cabinets (baby proofing kitchens and bath rooms for example), to offices that need to secure sensitive information.

Improved CT school security with electronic wireless locks

CT school safetyWith the school shooting tragedy in Newton still on everybody’s mind and while lawmakers are debating gun control, school administrators are looking for ways to increase protection for students and teachers during school hours. Parents and residents are demanding improved security and better ways to lock down schools, many towns and cities across the nation are scrambling to find a solution.

Electronic locks are one way to add security to a school building. Lock manufacturers have developed electronic locks that can achieve fast results in a lockdown situation. Wireless electronic locks can be added to an existing building that provide the same enhanced security as hard-wired locks that are used in new construction. Both types of locks can be managed through the computer network and, in emergency situations, provide fast lockdown. One lock manufacturer states that “10 seconds is the longest it will take to initiate lockdown” when using one of their wireless lock models.

Controlling access using a wireless lock also provides other benefits to schools, such as the ability to control or restrict entry to individuals during certain hours and provide an audit trail of who entered the building.

The Enfield Board of Education voted to place an armed guard in every Enfield school starting in September. Do you feel that this will deter shool shootings?

Lock your heart and throw away the key

love padlockLove padlocks (or love locks) – the symbolic gesture of people expressing their everlasting love by putting their names on a padlock and attaching it to a bridge, fence, or gate – started in Rome as locals began copying the characters in Italian author Federico Moccia’s bestselling romantic novel “Ho Voglia di Te” (“I Want You”) and soon it spread to other countries and cities, even making it to New York City’s Brooklyn Bridge.

While it seems incrediby romantic to countless star struck lovers across the globe it’s a major headache to city officials and maintenance crews who have to periodically inspect bridges and buildings and remove the padlocks. The rust from the locks could cause severe damage to stone bridges such as the historic Rialto bridge in Venice, Italy and many residents view the people attaching the locks as nothing more than vandals who are ruining marble, iron and stone. In an outraged front page editorial an Italian newspaper even called for €3000 (approx. $4000) fines and up to a year in jail for offenders who are caught in the act.
